    NOMENCLATURE OF AMINES
    Main Functional Group 1. Identify longest continuous carbon chain the N is attached to.
    2. Number to give the N the lowest possible number.
    3. Use N- as chain locator for substituents attached to nitrogen.
    4. Use -amine suffix at the end of the parent chain and appropriate chain locator.
    Simple Amines Named alkylamine (1°), alkylalkylamine(2°), or alkylalkylalkylamine (3°)
    As a Substituent Referred to as “amino” with appropriate chain locator

    Name the following:

    1-propanamine
    N,N,3-trimethylbutane
    3-aminopropanoic acid
