8.0 Naming Alkenes

    Add a header to begin generating the table of contents
    NOMENCLATURE OF ALKENES
    Main Functional Group 1. Identify longest continuous carbon chain that includes the alkene.
    2. Number to give the alkene the lowest possible number.
    3. Use -ene suffix at the end of the parent chain and appropriate chain locator.
    4. Assign cis/trans or E/Z to any alkenes that can exhibit cis/trans isomerism. Place designations in parenthesis at the beginning of the name. If more than one also include chain locators.

    Provide the IUPAC name for the following:

    Naming Alkenes with E vs Z

    alkenes 5

    Assign each of the following alkenes as either E or Z.
