Self Inductance • Results from a changing magnetic flux due to the current in the same circuit

ε = -L ΔI / Δt          L = Inductance; SI Unit = Henry = V • s / A

Mutual
Inductance
• Results when the changing current in one circuit induces an emf in a second circuit

ε2 = -M ΔI1 / Δt            -N2 ΔɸB / Δt  =  -M ΔI1 / Δt
Transformers • Transformers are comprised of a primary coil
and a secondary coil.
ΔɸB / Δt is equal in both coils.
• The power is equal in both coils.

ε1 / ε2 = N1 / N2            N1 / N2 = I1 / I2

ΔV1 I1 = ΔV2 I2
