Heat and Calorimetry

HEAT AND CALORIMETRY
Heat The transfer of energy between a system and its surroundings due to a difference in temperature.
Conduction Energy transfer mediated by direct contact (an exchange of KE).
Convection Energy transfer by movement of a fluid.
Radiation Energy transfer by electromagnetic radiation.
Specific Heat Heat required to raise the temperature of 1g of a substance 1°C.

q = mcΔT          m = mass          c = specific heat          ΔT = Tf - Ti
Latent Heat of Fusion Heat required to melt 1kg of a substance at its melting point.
Latent Heat of Vaporization Heat required to boil 1kg of a substance at its boiling point.
